If your gunna go 18" chances are they will be around 8" wide, from seeing others on here 8" requires the right offset to fit in the arches without flares I'm pretty sure anything over 8" will definitely need something doing to be road legal anyway but other than this 18" wheels seem a little large and will affect acceleration unless you use a proper low profile tyre...
Larger wheels like that are usually used on the more high powered cars where the need for tire width and grip overcomes the lag you get with larger diameter rims...
Saying that you may have 500bhp so could be good
That's my understanding of it anyway..

I tried 18inch et34 8j wide and they scrubbed on the outside and the clearance on lock was reduced too, so that particular setup I wouldn't use I dropped my back to 17s and no problem hope this helps

Regardless of whether 18's will fit or not, you're better off with 16's on track or 17's if you have big brakes.
Although lack of comfort isn't an issue on track 18's would require you to run such a low profile tyre you wouldn't want to run a low pressure in them. So you'll throw the handling and probably end up bouncing out the corners.
