Driver side door not unlocking

Post by Fallso » Wed Dec 09, 2015 1:05 pm

Hi chaps!

My driver side door is giving me a bit of jip - the central locking has never worked for it but I could use the fob and THEN unlock it via the key...until today! Went to go and do it and it refused to unlock! I did manage to get it in the end by putting the key in and turning it as hard as possible while mashing the unlock button, so now I've left it unlocked as I need to go out later. The passenger side is fine and unlocks on the key and fob.

My question is - what part do I need to replace, and how does one do it?

I would take the door card off and get to the lock mechanisms. I would remove the rods that attach to the inner handle and see if the lock works by itself, if it does not work then it must be the lock.

Cool I'll have a go at that! Are the locks relatively easy to replace on their own?

I did mine by myself and I'm by no means a mechanic

Give yourself about 2 hrs for the first one as it can be quite fiddly, by the second you'll know exactly how they come apart so easy peasy

First one on mine took about 2 hrs to strip, replace and test but the bloody tight angles made it all a nightmare lol
Second one took literally half an hour from opening door to closing with new lock fitted
Lude-behaviour!
