It finally happened. i think i snapped my cambelt.

Gutted. will check the belt when i have the chance but im not sure on what kind of damage it will have done. whats the worst case scenario? from some of the reading i have been doing it would imply that its going to be localised to the head of the engine? is this correct? or is it going to be better to get a whole engine to drop in?

Any advice would be appreciated.

If not in vtec at the time, probably no damage at all.

Really? i was at pretty low revs, under 3k i think, but i thought it was the gearbox slipping at first so i crawled it a little way, it was only when it became pretty much impossible to move to a soundtrack of intermittent and loud bangs that i pulled over and it wouldnt restart. whats the best course of action from here then?

Yep, it's been discussed a bit on here in the past, the H22 is non interference out of vtec.

Just put a new belt on and hopefully off you go................

loud bangs might give a little clue to the question of damage probably find you have damaged the valves time it up fit the belt do a compression test go from there

it was still just about driving right up till i pulled up though, it was just like it was slipping in and out of power. is it worth doing all that or would i best to source another head to put on before doing the belt? if the valves are damaged is it just a case of putting another head on?

Exactly that. If the compression comes back good, then happy days

You honestly have nothing to lose by trying it (except a good few hours, a bit of knuckle skin and some swear words)

Im not too confident on trying the cambelt change, thats the problem (and the reason i never got around to it).

how do i time the cams? is it just a case of lining up the markers on the pulleys?

Had a read through the guide. not liking the look of it! what special tools am i gonna need to do the job? and should i be doing the tensioner and stuff at the same time?
