Why poly bush maintenance is important

Started working on the lower arms last night thinking it would be an easy job with the spare arms I have already poly bushed to just remove them and fit the new ones. How wrong was I!!! The sleeve had fused itself to the poly bush meaning I had to cut part of the bush away then take a grip of the sleeve with mole grips to free it off. Managed to get two bushes done and that was enough for one night.

Once sleeve is removed the old bushes pop out quite easily with them being 2 half's but what I will say is there extremely brittle and broke away in chunks and this is the so called better impregnated graphite ones.

I do have another set of arms with standard bushes and starting to think I might be better off just starting to work on them :lol:

Yup that looks well screwed. But looking at the condition of the arm itself I am not surprised. That is some amount of surface rust!


Are they ES ones? The bushes from my ES kit have a large lip on them. Example:

Yup es bushes. Guess you missed the part were I mentioned bush was cut so i could grip the sleeve. :lol:

yup, clean em and grease em every year or face issues.

Depends on many things.
My garage is doing my bushes now last 4 weeks actually. They also have a few cars fully poly'd and depending on milage type of poly etc most don't need maintenance.
All my bushes have been copper greased before install.

I knew the rust got bad up in Scotland but those arms are drokked

I hate rust :x mine look similar to that. 20 years of corrosion. I'm going to have my spare set shot blasted so the look all nice and new then paint them with red oxide before a top coat.

When I do my bushes my plan is to remove any surface rust on the parts and paint them in a protector to help the longevity. Then a good copper grease with the bushing.
May as well while I've got the parts of to install the bushing.
