Rob's Carbon Wrapped CRX Del Sol ESI

Post by rob quilter » Sat Apr 07, 2012 9:14 pm

I bought this nearly a year ago, its and ESI (1.6 vtec). Not a single spot of rust on the arches, around windscreen or under the car. The bottom of the passenger door however was rusted across the bottom and was un-salvagable. But the rest of the car was sweet and drove spot on not bad for £400! 8-) The plan was to do all the work myself on a budget. I didn't take as many pics as I should of done

Here's some pics of when it came home...

I then SORN'd it and it sat in my garage for a few months.....I then decided to pull my finger out and get it sorted.

First job was to get rid of the rotten door, so I sourced another and fitted that.

I was undecided if I should paint the car or not, then thought sod it, satin black it!

So the car was stripped, prep'd, the 3 pin dents filled, primered, and then painted with 5 coats of satin black. Put the bumpers back on and the car and I had a set of brand new wheels and tyres in my garage that would fit the sol - so they went on to get rid of the steelies and the car was looking like this:

I then cleaned up the muck off the under side, then gave it few coats of underseal. I also gave it a full service. (no pics  )

Next job was to tackle the exhaust as it was rotten, I got lucky on eBay and won a used stainless steel catback exhaust in great condition for £40 delivered! 8)

So I got the car up on my ramps and stripped the complete old exhaust off, the manifold/ downpipe/ Cat were all in good nick. The rest.....Scrap!

The old exhaust off...

Just a bit rotten....

Mani is all good just needs a clean....

Gave the stainless exhaust a good polish, heres the backbox done, just the rest to polish.....

Then I fitted the shiny exhaust :D

Then I won another bargin on eBay....Some 3D carbon fibre vinyl, its not just printed onto a sheet, it has texture and looks supurb! Cost £160 delivered for 2.2m x 20m 8)

Wrapped the roof first.....

Then did the car...

Sorry for the bad pics and dirty car in these pics

Decided the leave the bumpers and mirrors satin black to break the carbon up a bit 8)

Next job was the brakes.

Stripped the front and rears, calipers were in great shape. I gave everything a good clean and fitted new discs and pads all round....

Then I refitted all the lights and bits, one of the headlights was cracked and needed replacing. So I sourced one from delsoluk - Many thanks to rocketman! 8)

I noticed the passenger side sideskirt was missing all of its screws, so spees on delsoluk sorted me out with some screws, cheers! 8)

I also wanted clear indicators...and again delsoluk came thru again! Thanks to glovermx! 8)

Last thing to do was to paint the 'H' badges gloss black, badges sanded down....

Image

Car done, just needs washing and the newly painted badges fitting...

It went in for its MOT today and it passed with no advisories :D Its now taxed and on the road 8)

Ill get some final and clean pics up tomorrow.

I like that. It took me a couple of mins to come to that conclusion though. Yep that is cool and very neatly thought out! :)

That looks really sweet man. Nice one.

Cheers guys :D

Its lots of fun to drive, almost like a go kart with it being a 2 seater, its low as standard and the seats are pretty much bolted to the floor 8-)

Took it out this afternoon and it got sooo much attention everywhere I went, It embarrassed quite a few cars too

I'll try and get some meets :D
