Vtec solenoid valve
Engine/Gearbox questions and discussion
Vtec solenoid valve
Post by rick82 » Fri Sep 12, 2014 9:38 pm
Hi
I have a cel code 21 which comes on after about 40 mins.
What's the best way to approach this? Is the solenoid serviceable or will it just require a new one?
Thanks

The spool valve is serviceable, but not the solenoid.

If your sure the wiring is ok I bet its the solenoid. If the fault code is coming up under normal driving (no vtec) then it will be detecting a internal fault in the solenoid

One life, LIVE IT! Get VTEC, LOVE it. Drive a Honda and ENJOY it.

There are two gaskets with metal mesh filters - one of them is clearly visible when you take the solenoid/valve off and one that sits under the solenoid - you can get to this one by undoing the 3 screws that hold the assembly together. Normal procedure is to take them out and clean it all down with something like carb cleaner. Might be worth doing that first.
Just be careful taking the gaskets out as they are expensive to replace.

All depends what expensive means for youvanzep wrote:Just be careful taking the gaskets out as they are expensive to replace.

IIRC they around £20 for both. One is available from your local honda dealer, other one unfortunattely isn't. I mean they will sell you one but it doesn't fit. So you must buy it from here
