ATR at the ready!

Post by vanzep » Thu Sep 29, 2016 1:54 pm

The ATR manifold has been sitting around for a while so decided to get it finished and ready to fit :)
The H22A thermal intake gasket (Thermotec 3.75mm thk) arrived today and ive fitteda genuine Honda EGR gasket and blanking plate.
Mocked them up on an old spare H22A2 head and did some minor clearancing and it looks good to go :P

Plan is to fit this and a P28 ecu with chrome and get a tune.
This should sit well with the cams and exhaust i have.

I will need to purchase the P28 in due course and save for the tune.

Yep - I had a look at the Hondata gasket that Merlin has and the thermotec one looks to be good and its half the price ;)

I've got a P28 for you Nick. I've also got a brand new Hondata S300 to put in it as well ;)

If i had the cash for S300 i would ;)
P28 set up with chrome is half the price and should be all that i need as the BB4 is a daily drive :)

Nice work, will be looking at this modification too next year but wondering the comparison on ease of swap and gains on par with Skunk2's intake and throttle body setup.
Will be interesting to see if you feel a difference, obviously the tune will be the finishing of the product and as for Bb4 dailys 8-)

cheers @Greg-SiR i dont know much about modifying/tuning but ive been told the ATR is better mid-range than the Skunk2 which seems to only offer any benefits at the top-end.
I was lucky and bought the ATR inlet already modified but there are a couple of little bits still to be done to complete it.
Also i like the fact the ATR is OEM Honda - in fact all the engine mods ive done/going to do are with OEM Honda parts :)
Still its a bit mad doing any of this on an engine thats approaching 195,000 and hasnt been rebuilt
One reason i can justify it is in theory a p28 and a remap could save on petrol and pay for itself in the long run :?
The BB4 puts out a fair bit of unburnt fuel

I'm pretty sure the skunk 2 one is a copy of the ATR one isn't it vanzep?
Re the fuelling, I know I'm on hondata but for what it's worth my mpg is certainly no worse than standard. Obviously more grunt though, which usually goes hand in hand with worse mpg, so plenty happy as it is. 8-)

Not sure if the Skunk2 is an exact copy of the ATR inlet but it does look very similar.
Rosko racing used to do ATR conversions which was very popular but supplies of ATR manis have dried up.

I might be able to get a tune done for 95 ron standard unleaded and save around 10p a litre - i guess everyone else has gone for a tune on 99 vpower :?
