Home audio isn't car audio. A cars environment is so bad to build in. They cannot be compared.
I'm shocked you have not heard of kick speakers before.
90% of the best sound cars have the midrange in the kicks. Check out Scott buwaldas builds. Owner of hybrid audio. Biggest scoring sound quality iasca competitor ever.
In cars some of the best sound cars have the speakers in the kicks. Your legs don't block the sound and because of the path length differences it does not sound like it's coming from the floor. In fact the sound is appears higher than installing in the pillar depending on the car.
Humans don't start hearing height until around 5000hz that's why having tweeters in the pillar works well. Humans ears cannot detect a sound sourc below 300hz as the sound is omnidirectional so you can install mid bass under the seats if you want like bmw do or behind you. 300hz to 600hz is where we detect stage width. If you have the speakers in the pillar that's very close to your ears and will require allot of time alignment compared to putting them in the kicks.
In some cars kicks work better, there is no right or wrong in car audio. I have spent around 30 hours of listening on speaker positioning and this is where it all sounds best.
I do intend to compete in the emma master class unlimited next yearwith this system.
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.
