Yeah i completely stripped the boot when i took it drag racing. only thing that was left was the lights and wiring.
Although i havent taken the lights out and driven it yet. worth a try i reckon.

And thanks thebusofwoe, i may well take you up on that when i got a bit of spare cash to cover the fuel!

Paul, im worried its gonne be the entire back end that falls off though!!

Right, i just managed to make it knock when stationary.

I had a good old pull at the wheel and it knocked with a little give, and a good bit of pulling on the top of the knuckle makes it knock too, pulling on the wishbone doesnt. the knuckle has a little give in it, is it ment to?

You can see movement between the knuckle and wishbone too, where the ball joint is. is it ment to do that??

I cant work out where the knock is coming from by listening though.

when you say knuckle do you mean the upright? if the ball joint at the top wishbone doesn't have ny give then it could be the bottom balljoint or one of the bushes on the lower arm

Yeah the upright, when you pull on it you can see it move where it connects to the wishbone or upper arm or whatever you want to call it.

I have just taken my old passenger side wishbone off the old assembly, because before the change i only had a slight knock fro mthe drivers side. so if im not working tomorrow im gonna switch them over, and if the noise is gone/changes, i must be on the right track?

Can you put new ball joints on the wishbones? or do they come complete? couldnt see a way of getting it out on the one i took off.

Also the rubber boots are trashed on old and new sets, how to you change them? do they just pop off and a new one back on and clip in place?

Im feeling good about this, im feeling like in a few weeks she will be safe to drive again! :D

*EDIT* just found these on ebay, so obviously they do come out. im guessing they are pressed in and out? not a job i could do at home?

Yea held in with a circlip. I have changed just the ball joint on one of my rear arms. eBay about £15 iirc.

just realised i forgot the link, found the balljoints on ebay.

so how do i press them in and out? do i need a special tool? nothing about it in the manual that i can find so a writeup would be awesome!
