Still decided to protect the bumper bar before refitting the bumper though - don't want any rust developing there thank you very much! (the boot seal seam is a job for another day)

Image

More bits going on (snore)

Image

Image

This thing was a right pain to line up properly

Image

All the vulnerable seams in the boot Dinitrol'd up

Image

Making use of the air line to get in and Dinitrol the inside of the sills too - rust free so far and I want them to stay that way!!!

Image

Getting it right in the holes (oooer)

Image

Dripping out the holes. And I never cease to enjoy the lovely condition of those original sills... :D

Dinitroling up inside the drivers side rear arch seam

And inside the passenger side rear arch seam

End of day 1 rebuilding!

Morning of day 2, day of the Mimms meet and all planned in reay to roll up with a nice shiny car... (or so we thought)

As it greeted us, bright and early

New shizzle

(Both sides)

Image

Reassembled shiny bits ready to go on

Image

(To be honest, I got bored taking pics at this point and was royally pissed off that we then reaslised we wouldn't get it done in time to go to Mimms, so none taken of the sunroof being reassembled and refitted etc)

Time to smile again - Front end complete

Image

Mmmmmm nice. (take note of this pic for horror story later on........)

Image

Back end finished (minus spoiler) and finally ready to roll out of the body shop :D

It got as far as whole car out of the spray booth, rear wheels out of the work shop and...
a tyre clipped a scaffold pole on the floor, which bounced into a metal ladder standing in a corner of the workshop, which came crashing down across the front of the car... [smilie=hate-cry2.gif]

Sat in the drivers seat looking out through the windscreen it was a complete horror slow-mo experience, that just left me completely gobsmacked and speechless.

So the 1 original front wing was bent, the original windscreen was smashed and the new bonnet was scraped (how it missed damaging the roof I just don't know - check out how close that mark on the windscreen seal is to the roof, where the ladder hit it!!!)

The missus was virtually in tears, bless her :(

So it got driven straight back into the spray booth and we went round to the owners to drown our sorrows in beer (bearing in mind he'd already painted the whole car twice!!!!!)

One week later, a new bronze tint windscreen, new windscreen seal and more straightening / painting later, it finally made it home.

A few more random pictures of bits that followed.

Where would we be without ebay? (Buggered if I could find anywhere else that did single sided self-adhesive closed cell foam!)

More new shizzle (bonnet lip seal)

And some things found while I was stripping it before going into the bodyshop

This might have something to do with why cruise doesn't work??? (Why do so many people drokk with wiring on cars and leave it in a butchered state?!) [smilie=hate-wall.gif]

Original JDM upgraded ICE :jdm:

Yes, that does say "Sonda"!!!

Failed its MOT week before last on tyre below min tread wear, split steering rack gaitor and (the usual for an old lude) poor performance on the rear brakes.

Rear brakes were far and away the worst old Honda brakes I've had to take apart, pads completely seized in, had to chisel the heck off them to get them out of the carriers.
Also total nightmare with one of the calipers, something I've never had before, one of the bolts just wouldn't budge and bloody rounded off! Running out of time so I muddled through for time being by leaving that bolt in and swung the caliper up to get the pads out. Made cleaning up the carriers a right sod - crap access. (Carrier off and bolt head to grind off some time soon.)

So onto the steering gaitor. I've done an inner track rod end on the drivers side before and that was a complete sod (nil access to the tab washer and to get the gaitor over the end of rack). Fortunately the passenger side is WAY way easier, because you get full access to it from underneath.

Image

None of those cheapy cable ties here thank you very much - proper ligarex straps!

In the course of all this work, I discovered all the rubber ball joint boots on the car are completely perished. WAY WAY worse than on my UKDM (a year older). On the UKDM the joints are worn but the rubber's ok. On this one the joints are nice and stiff, but all the rubber's completely perished like I've never seen before. Must have lived in a particularly hot part of Japan??? Ho-hum, 4 track rod ends to do then.

Worn tyre was an excuse to fit the wheels lurking in the shed for ages :D

Another lude wearing a former forum car's clothes  (Thanks Sam)

So that's the the first mod out of the way now too...

Passed the retest on Saturday, but the front brakes were borderline this time apparently - very out of balance on the test. So my plans for them will have to move up the priority list then!

Couple of pics in the light snow we had on Saturday morning.

Nah not lost the centre cap, still got it, I just didn't get round to re-fitting it after the steering rack gaitor job and it's too cold to go out and do it now!

I do need to replace at least one of those cap head screws 'cause the hex has rounded off on one of them. Thinking I might be able to get them from work, but not checked yet.
