Thanks - I now have the washers and will hopefully be fitting them tomorrow - I'll let ya'll know how it goes :D
Washers fitted, made things worse... Then I have a good look & pull around while she was on the ground and found that one of the drop link bolts had loosened off - it was replaced at some point and the mechanic (?) did not use a locking nut. Replaced the nut with a nice shiny new locking nut and all is now well. I guess it was just coincident that this happened when I was changing the shocks.

One of the quickest and easiest fixes I've done in a while

If anyone needs 3x big washers with 15mm holes, just let me know.

^ one of my links died when I had the shocks changed, didn't have any replacements at the time and it sounded like what I imagine shock knock to sound like

Interesting the things that can sound like shock-knock...

I've learnt that the thing to do is to check all components when the car is down on the ground as the drop link felt tight when it was up on the jack.
