Got a car that isn't a Lude? There's no condemnation here. Tell us about it!

It kinda helps that I'm trained in electrical and mechanical maintenance, also everything I did was well documented on the internet.

Right, bit of an update required here I think. My car was due an MOT at the end of September and unsurprisingly, it failed. It failed on brakes as expected but also on emissions.
For the brakes I had already planned on a full refurb so it was just a case of buying the parts and doing the work. The calipers were all removed from my spare car and stripped, shot blasted and painted with smooth red hammerite.

New seals fitted.

I went for Hawk HPS pads as I had tried and tested them on the lude and they are very good. Low dust and excellent stopping power.

Mtec discs came highly recommended from the guys over on civic5 so a full set with a black protective coating were next on the list.

The brakes were finished off with a set of Hel braided hoses.

The failure on emissions however was a bit unexpected. I had refitted the cat and the original ecu but it seems that was not enough so I had my local exhaust specialist fit a new cat and thought I'd try giving it a terraclean.
For anyone that doesn't know, a terraclean is like a fuel treatment that is connected directly to your fuel system and pumped in via a machine. I spotted it on wheeler dealers and its benefits are well documented. Plus I found that my local terraclean agent lived in the next street to me so it was quite convenient.

After the process was completed it went straight to the test centre and flew threw the emissions test with virtually no co emissions and very little hydrocarbons. The brakes are now fully bedded in and are excellent. Very progressive with a much firmer feel to them. It also seems to run much smoother after the terraclean and I can barely hear it when idling. Would definitely recommend it to anyone having emissions problems or even just to refresh a tired engine.

Definitely worth doing, it only costs just over £100 and the benefits are well worth it.Donald wrote:very cool. A few people on here have recommended this Terraclean now.
Thanks, it took ages. Shot blasting the calipers was hard work but well worth it. Next time I'll use better paint though as hammerite is a nightmare to work with.mart609 wrote:nice job on the brakes

This car has now been sold to make way for the next project. I was sad to see it go but I couldn't afford to keep three cars on the road. Anyway it looks to have gone to a good home and although I spent some money on it I got more than double what I paid for it so I guess I must have done a good job.
Check out the none lude build threads section for a preview of the next project.

Was surprised to see you'd sold this, know how much you liked it.
Did you get the engine management probs sorted in the end (I can't remember what they were - starting? Idle control?
) or has the new buyer got those to enjoy now?
