40? Don't you get lots of tyre wear in the middle? 32 all round for me too.

Found the problem with the valve, the tyre was blown from the inside. Worrying thing is that this is the second tyre I have blown within 6 months on the rear passenger side and both tyres were blown from the inside.
Maybe it could be something to do with balancing or alignment. I know there is creaking when I am braking on that wheel and a metal on metal sound even though I have had it looked at.
Tyre ripped on inside (last tyre was also ripped on inside) Hmmmm..

Tread looks fine..
Alloy looks undamaged.

looks like the tyre has only ripped because you have driven on it flat theres a dark score mark going all round the tyre under the writing that you can see on your pic, it wont be allignment or balancing mate, if the back wheel is unbalanced you will feel a vibrating sensation through the floor of the car in the seat, allignment will make the car either pull or wear tyre unevenly. Did you get the garage to take the tyre off and check the inner edge for corrosion?

Rich...also you need fatter tyres. IIRC your running 205/40/17s. And Coventry roads are Clubbing Eddy so you may have damaged the tyre.
Try a 215/45/17 and maybe adjust the coilovers a tad higher if it rubs..
