how many times have i told you folks, you need some kind of gentlemans agreement where ebay is conserned. i know some say that this wont work, however the ones who say it wont work are also the ones who wont stick too it, this doesnt matter, as there are more of us who would follow a guideline than those who wont. oh yeh good tip - once the buyer has won, paid and left feedback you can follow the link from the sellers feedback page to the buyers feedback page and see what else this ebayer has brought, this can highlight who they are ;) afterall most on here will post something like hey look what i just won :D

some say that an agreement is unfair as it will lower the final selling price for the seller, hey we are a small minority so it shouldnt make any real difference, and if you are a seller and also a member then why wasnt it in the for sales first

It's not just unfair on the seller, it's unfair on all the other people that want it also... Especially if they're prepared to pay more than the first person who spots it and calls "dibs!"

Why should I have to let someone purchase some Skunk2 Pro 2 cams brand new in box for the 99p starting bid when I've been wanting some for best part of a year and am prepared to pay £400+, just because they spotted them 1 minute before I did and posted "dibs"?!

The only gentlemanly rule regarding ebay goods that should be respected is the one about not posting up auctions drawing everyone's attention to something that members may already be watching. If people aren't searching for things themselves then it's their own fault if they miss something. The only acceptable exception is if the auction is yours. Simples!

Everyman for them selves IMO.
If you spot it and want it, get it.
If someone else links in and you see it last minute, get it.

If you see it on ebay etc then bid for it. If someone puts up a link and you have to pay more, thems the breaks :(

But why post something you spotted on ebay up if it's not yours?... If you don't want it yourself, just stay out of it!

(I realise that wasn't the original arguement, but that was a ridiculous suggestion, so I'm changing it  )

If you think it might appeal to some other members... JUST STAY OUT OF IT!... I'm sure a number of the members have in fact spotted it already (We all know how to work ebay, and if you don't, TOUGH! You obviously don't care enough to find such bargains). So why deprive those that deserve to win a bargain of potentially winning a bargain?

Yea, that's why I never posted anything about me buying the Aerodeck before I actually bought it as it was a Buy It Now / Make Offer listing.

If you see something and think it will appeal to someone in particular who may not have seen it, just PM it to them, it's not hard.
