The 4th gen/5th gen bonnet dampers are spec'd (Loosely) to the weight of a weighty OEM bonnet. They're well balanced in that you are required to lift the bonnet 2/3 of the way up and then they support it. If you let go of the bonnet before 2/3 of the way up it will close, but slowly.
If you use the same dampeners on a carbon fibre bonnet the bonnet will pop up soon after you've lifted it off the catch. Not such a big deal when lifting (although heaven forbid you let it shoot up on its own), but when closing there's a lot of stress through the dampener mounting point of the bonnet and remember that most carbon fibre bonnets are only carbon fibre on the top. The undersides are generally fibreglass and it wouldn't be too long before the stress and strain of opening and closing the bonnet will cause the bonnet to break up around the mounting point.
