Phil's thinking was the same as mine - initially thought balance seal, then thought no can't be because it's too high.
Interesting to hear that's where yours leaked from the cam cover gjm. I guess the oil gets sprayed around inside the cam cover and that might be why some comes out higher up?
What's interesting is that I thought there was a mod carried out that fitted a seal retainer? So we can presume this wasn't fitted to mine? My last cambelt change was at a Honda dealer, so they should have spotted that and fitted it???

if the oil was very sluggish due to the very low temp and you started it and its dumped that much oil in so short a time it has to be one of the main seals either the crank or the balance seal

Re: Welcome home!
There is a retainer, Honda part. Search my posts as I'd asked for a part no. for it before. I think it was vtecmec that replied.

I think this means my UKDM will be off the road for a while, which is drokking annoying.
I don't have the time to fix it atm and I'm buggered if I'm doing it on the drive at this time of year. I need the ramp finished so I can use the space in the barn properly. So it's either pay to have it done or it has to wait its turn on the ramp.
I've been wanting to clean up the engine bay properly, repaint the rocker cover, replace that temporarily repaired ps pipe and other rusty looking bits like brackets and the c/c actuator etc. etc. with decent ones for donkeys. They're all over that side of the engine bay so this is the time to do it.
*sigh*
Not liking having my baby off the road

And it means the bb4 now becomes the daily too, which is not ideal in the winter 'cause the arches haven't been repaired

Need to get the ramp sorted and the Xantia finished/back on the road

I assume the only way to change the cam seals (38) is to take the pulleys off the end of the shafts, right? After removing the bolts (31) and the keys (37) the sort that need whacking in/out or are they just push fit? (Not read the manual yet).

Even though the oil was coming out the join between the top and bottom cover I removed my rocker cover etc and top timingbelt cover I can't see any problems from the top half which means it must be the balanceshaft seal which is a pita now seen as the only place I can get the work done is outside were its parked up not good at this time of year but needs done asap as I have no other mode of transport
