Better Steering Response
Post by Vtecmec » Thu Feb 21, 2013 7:07 pm
After reading a few posts on here recently, is it correct that if I fit a 5th gen VSS, which has no power steering connection, in lieu of the 4th gen one, that I'll get less assistance from the steering pump and better sense of feeling at the wheel?

Yes, mine has the pipes, it was Merc's comment about your (his) old black lude that got me thinking. I've got the box on my workbench and both a 4th and 5th VSS........Bri wrote:If you have a connection to the VSS in the firts place, I dont know if they all do. I dont remember one on my red uk lude, but the black JDM Auto did. 2 pipes from the rack to the top of the VSS, I just bridged the 2 pipes at the rack end of things.

The only difference will be that the low speed assistance will decrease which obviously improves feel at low speed
Higher speed is unaffected.
No need to use the 5th gen vss, you can just loop the lines off your existing one
Also, make sure if you do start swapping vss between cars that you have the correct drive gear to match your diff, they are not all the same!
