(LB) Mugen Manifold & Downpipe Fitted
Post by NafemanNathan » Mon Feb 06, 2012 3:30 pm

The bay prior to the installation looked like this...

It wasn't an easy task to remove the various nuts and bolts. All 5 bolts/studs holding the oem manifold to the downpipe sheered

Here's the new and old comparisons. Some what chunkier you might say

Old manifold removed, I decided the block was looking a little dry and in need of a make over...

There was a good amount of carbon build up as well...

So I had a bit of a clean

Then the new manifold and downpipe went on

Then I rolled her out the gargage before I doing an ecu reset before firing her up to let her steam away...

She had a bit of a smokey ass for a while to, but that disappeared in good time.

Anyway, I'm chuft with the result... She makes an awesomely deep purr at idle now I've done away with the cat

Oh... And she goes a bit quicker to

How much heat wrap did you use to the the mani and downpipe?
Oh and keep it phantom grey, red carbon would just look like a colour mismatch IMO
Keep up the bloody good work!
(Oh, and how hard was it to remove the AC? Did you just buy an alternator belt for the non AC prelude, or was it another different sized belt?)

I ended up buying a lot more heat wrap than I thought. I bought 10m of the silver stuff first, thinking I'd be able to do the manifold and downpipe. This would have been enough to just about do the manifold it turns out, but because the manifold is so chunky, the silver stuff at 3mm thick was just too thick to get in between the tubes. So I used the silver stuff to do all of the downpipe. Then bought another 10m (2x5m) of the white stuff, which was slightly thinner to do the manifold. I could have done with another 50cm to be honest, hence why I used a bit of the silver to finish it off tidally

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the Phantom grey bonnet (If daiz still has it) If not, I'll have to get my hands on any colour bonnet and spray it the same pearlescent Honda Nighthawk black as I'm doing the boot top and wing mirrors

The Air-con removal was a doddle mate

Good choice to wrap it. But check this out (half way down the page): Click for Mugen Revivalness!
How good a job did he do.
Keep it up bud. Tempted to remove some bits in my engine bay now.
Will be starting with my EGR bit's now I have my P28 ECU installed and an EGR block off plate has just arrived. Was thinking of relocating the battery and then re-routing my cruise control (gotta keep it for the Mugen wheel controls!![]()
) unit underneath the battery area recess??? :-k
Aircon and power steering may follow one day, perhaps with my rear interior! Mmm evil thoughts, but it appears less is more!
Still no progress on the side skirts yet. I'll let you know.

I've currently got my eyes on a P28 on the old fleabay actually

I considered doing away with the power-steering as well, to lose yet more weight, but I know I'd miss it. It's all too easy to just use one hand parking and reversing and driving in general... Especially when my left hand is usually on the gear shifter

Cool... No hurry with the skirts. Got me some refurbed rims and tyres to pay for this month. But I'll definately take them off your hands

Haha, you, or should I say your lude, will be winding up the parents in no time. My parents have told me that when I go and visit them, they know that I will be knocking on the door in approximately two minutes cos they can hear me driving up the adjacent estate. And my lude is relatively quiet!![]()
In terms of the performance, I guess you can feel an improvement low down the rev range right?
