Sticky rear calipers.....

Ok, so when i leave my car parked up for a long period of time, with the handbrake on, the calipers are sticking. Can hear them popping free when i drive off.

So, im guessing they are close to seizing.

What should i do to prevent them from seizing fully?? Take them off, clean them up and do they have sliders that i could grease up??

Advice needed on what to do to catch them in time.

Don't park it with the hand-brake on - just leave it in gear or chock the wheels.

The 'popping' is the pads releasing from the surface rust on the discs, doesn't
mean the capilers are sticking. If they are then the wheels will get warm/hot
when you drive.

Thanks tom.

So could i just give the discs a good clean up to stop the pads sticking?? If im honest, i would rather get the use of the handbrake when its parked up, don't 100% trust leaving it in gear. Suppose i could just put it on a couple of clicks, and also leave it in gear.

Will strip them down also and give them a good clean up.

I park my Ludes up for 3-4 months at a time (usually over winter) and always leave the handbrake off. Even day-to-day I dont park with the handbrake on. Leaving it in gear is more secure than the handbrake alone will ever be. If you are leaving the car for a while leave the cleaning of the calipers untill after, just before you want to put it back on the road, or you will have to do them all over again

as said this is not sticky calipers, just pads sticking to the disc.

if the car goes to bed wet this will happen, especially if its on a slop of any kind.

sticky calipers will be a sound of brake pads gently rubbing as you drive along and one being considerably hotter than the other after a 10 minute drive.

I dont use the lude that often and its normally always parked up. I always leave the lude in gear since having the rear calipers refurbed over a year now, i never use the handbrake and the calipers havent seized at all

Leaving it in gear is more reliable than the handbrake imo

When you on a hill okay but when you park in a normal street just put into gear!

i parked my Lude up for 5 years with the handbrake off and its still free as a bird
