no new kid, if you cut below where the cable attatches and add a bar the length you want to raise the cable by (i copied an FM one) and weld it up that reduces the throw, then if you want to shorten the gear stick you just cut the amount you want to reduce it by out above the cable attatchment point, then weld it together!
obviously if you do both you have to take into account the amount of material you add below the attachment point into the overall length

those adaptors are ok but some clash with the gear surround!

Nice little additions Ste - got one of those adaptors too, mine feels really notchy though. Not a big fan, but when you're living your life a quarter mile at a time, every second counts on that shift!

Been after one for ages. Then if it's lucky, I'll let it live in the garage and make friends will all the other parts for say...a year. Then for a treat I'll fit it one day! Unless you buy it before I get a chance!
Nice beamer, same engine as the other halfs daily - but the older version. Is it the 134bhp engined model? My missus has the 150bhp engined one and it flippin shifts (Hello 243lb/ft torque!)
You may know already but watch out for the Swirl flap problems on the earlier models:-
There are some known turbo issues too - google and you'll see.
Still a cracking motor. I've got the Haynes manual for it if you're scratching your head on anything, just doesn't cover this engine model (from another manufacturer).
Also bonus on the M sport 18's and it looks to have a few fatties sat in it!

I've wanted to weld the diff, turn the traction control off and take her drifting but the missus won't let me!
Oh well, that'll be another car in the fleet in the future then missy - you have been warned!

You may know already but watch out for the Swirl flap problems on the earlier models:-
A new 'swirl flap' mechanism embedded in the inlet manifold. These consist of a number of butterfly valves within each individual inlet tract, which are secured to an actuating rod via two small screws. It has become clear that over time these screws can come loose via vibration etc. When this happens they can end up being drawn into the respective cylinder, causing significant damage to piston, cylinder head and valves. If unlucky further damage can be caused to the turbo if the screw then makes its way through the exhaust valve into the manifold and subsequently into the turbo. These failures have occurred in such quantity that a number of specialist BMW magazines have featured articles on the problem including information on how to remove the swirl flaps. For those who wish to perform some preventive maintenance on the M47TUD20 engine, there are companies who supply and/or fit blanking plugs to allow the removal of these swirl flaps altogether. Subsequent revisions of this engine involved the replacement of the mechanical method of securing these flaps by a one-piece moulded plastic flap that so far appears to have eliminated the problem.

ahh yeah ive read nothing but warnings about those damn flaps! the engine only has 30k on it but ive ordered 4 of the blanking plates and will attempt to remove them when they arrive
its on coilovers and is WAY too low at the minute, speed bumps are a hell no!
so i'll be raising them asap
as for the power, yeah its the lower powered one and first gear is soooo sluggish but it does pick up after that, definitely going to have it remapped i think, have read on a few forums that it gives a mpg boost aswell!
ive already bought a full leather interior for it, turbo back exhaust and now im looking at front mounts
one thing thats annoying me though - i cant seem to turn off the traction control? the button just does nothing
im going to start off with the cheap options and replace the button itsself as it doesnt light up with the interior lights or anything like that, then my second guess would be a wheel sensor maybe?!
i do need to pop over for a catch up soon! moving house on the 6th so will be abit tight on time for the next few weeks but txt me when you fancy it and ill come and see the baby too!
