mugen bb4

Post by bristol_bb4 » Mon Feb 06, 2012 9:45 am

thought id might as well get a thread started as ive got some plans in the pipeline :D

this is my third lude (all have been red as its by far the best colour  ) ive had it about 3 months now and it was COMPLETELY standard when i got it! it had covered only 80,000kms and had not been converted :D

anyway here it is on the night i got it!

Image

when i went to collect it it was advertised as a "bb1 non lsd vtec" with faulty 4ws but not showing any warning lights! had just had a full respray so its 100% mint cond and cleans up beautiful! anyway i haggled the guy down to a fair price of £750
as i was driving away there were a few little things that i just couldnt understand, like why the 4ws light didnt even come on with the ignition :?: so i pulled over about 500 yards down the road from the guys house, looked at the plate in the engine bay and there it was! "BB4" then i checked the passanger door shut! "si vtec lsd" :D :D :D so id bought a mint condition lsd bb4 8-)

its exactly how i like a bb4 to be aswell! no sunroof, no traction control, no cruise control - nothing 8-)

after getting uber fed up of the MASSIVE gaps in the wheel arches and the kinda soft ride i invested in some tein coilovers

after - 8-)

unbelievable the difference some decent suspension makes!!

next on the list was an engine back stainless exhaust, only went for an ebay jobby manifold because ive had one on both of my previous ludes without any issues and was happy with the product for the money paid!
also added front and rear strut braces and removed any excess weight! removed so far -

the mrs
everything from the boot (wheel, lining etc)
sound deadening from under the interior carpet, i honestly cant believe how much this stuff weighed!!!
removed the entire exhaust heat shield from front to back! as far as i can see its not even protecting anything important! even the one that runs under the petrol tank is WAY too far away to feel any radiated heat from the exhaust.

thats pretty much where it stands at the moment! ive got a new set of wheels coming which id desperately needs as the saw blades make it look so dated!! ive got a chip from rob ready to go in at some point, but im kinda liking how it runs at the moment, pops flames at high rev gear changes 8-) i know its been said that popping flames is a sign of poor tuning but hey, rally cars pop flames so it cant be all bad!!

so the list of jobs to do in the next few months

get advan t5 wheels fitted
reupholster interior in bride material
replace both rear calipers as they are sticking
pads and discs all round - im leaning towards brembo equipment all round.
get the rear 3 windows tinted
spoon front lip
c/f bonnet and roof vinyled in carbon fibre effect

then long term plans are going for engine work, but still looking into the different ways of making power so not decided on which route to take yet!

so there it is! my story so far!! im never evere going to sell this car, its with me til either one of us dies now! lol

What a steal! :D

Reminds me of mine when I first got her (same colour, completely standard and the exact same spec) :) ... Just mine hadn't just had a full respray and cost me twice as much!

Looking forward to seeing her grow :)

Cheers guys :D I know I got a good deal and I use that excuse for every mod I buy lol!

Jay, I know they are lol and its bugged me since the day I bought it lol! Got new wheels coming though :D

Pushki - I honestly couldn't live with the standard suspension, exhaust or wheels, these 3 things make 4th gens look massively aged!! Lol

Cheers for the comments :)

Good

I dunno, I like the original wheels :) When they're the right way round () and the car is low enough I think they look awesome 8-)

I do have a pair of 17s coming though, but I'll definitely be keeping the 15s.

These three things are understandable. It's the rest of your plans. Ripping out the boot and sound deadening and the c/f stuff.

In 10 years time there will be no 'standard' 4th gen's left! :(
