Decided to swap my speakers from the Golf over today. Straight away I thought I had found the reason for the poor audio quality in my car

Out with the the old speaker and housing

And in with the new

I think I could really do with some speaker rings, as this car has those annoying baskets behind the speakers like the Prelude has. The stock speakers were 12cm rather than the 16cm I had assumed, I think this is because I have parcel shelf speakers in the back. I'm guessing Accords that weren't fitted with 16's on the shelf had them up front instead. At any rate I've temporarily put the 13cm speakers from my Golf in.

However.... I still have a bit of a niggle  the left speaker crackles slightly every now and again. Now I'm 100% sure I connected the terminals correctly - could anything else cause this? The speakers were a tad wet from condensation, could this cause crackling? :?

the wires might be chaffed somewhere, if Im doing an install i always run new cables, preferably oxygen free :)

The thought did cross my mind, the wires were very short and were pulled tight against the door card :? Don't really fancy running new cable though, bet it'd be mega hassle :(

it can be a bit of a squeeze getting them from the car into the door. It depends how bad the crackle is i suppose. like you say it could be the speaker so it would be a bit annoying to struggle then it not cure the problem.

Suspension wise, it is all down to what your budget and your wallet will allow. I am going for air eventually, but that'll probably be a 2014 investment.

Running new wire isn't too bad really, I did mine easily enough, but I do believe that I have bigger doors than you though as I have the Aerodeck. Usually worth doing in such an old car though really just for piece of mind at least.

It's not running it inside the door that worries me so much, it's getting it tidily through the dash. I ran some wire in my 6th gen Accord from the doors when I lit up the door pocket, it was really tricky getting the wires hidden, they kept falling down all the time and getting caught round my feet :x

Best to use cable ties. You can lift the carpet from the front and tuck them under. You might need to change the head unit to get rid of the crackling. The upgrade speakers may be too powerful for the standard deck.

Please can you let me know if you decide to sell the gsi plz.

Seems my crackling problem has gone, touch wood it was the water on the speaker. Just cranked the stereo and the bass, and the crackling has disappeared :D

I doubt I'll be selling her anytime soon mate, but I will let you know if I do. I've had about 10 offers on the car already across the few forums I'm on though, so it'll go to bids when the time comes  tbh I can't see it being for a few years though, I tend to hoard cars
