Yeah a7 is much easier to find than a8. S2 cams wouldn't be much good on an a5 motor. better off with ATR cams as anthing past that would be too agressive for the 10:1 CR

Did it not come to pass that the exhaust/cat differences are related to the 220BHP JDM-spec too and our exhausts are all the same? Someone ended up with a Type-S one as the bits wouldn't fit, IIRC.Donald wrote:From Carrisma's page on il interneto:
http://www.carrisma.co.uk/mycar.htmI don't think that the differences between the H22A5 & H22A8 engine have been fully documented for the public, but after research I have found the differences are with the:
Air intake ducting & filter housing are a different design using "dynamic chambers",
Camshafts with increased lift,
Different pistons increasing the compression ratio from 10.0 to 11.0,
Enlarged throttle body from 60 to 62 mm,
Exhaust manifold / down pipe is cylindrical as opposed to oval,
Exhaust piping has an increased bore of 57 mm instead of 50.8 mm,
Flexible pipe before the catalytic converter is shorter,
Catalytic converter is 5cm longer at 39.5cm,
Optimised ignition and injection timing,
Valve seats readjusted from 60 to 45 degrees,
Presence of a knock sensor on the H22A8
IIRC...

That'll cost you a grand in parts & labour. Better off buying a motor with the right pistons inLewisH wrote:In that case, ill do the compression as well. Dont mind spending the pennies

Forged bottom end for N/A seems an overshoot IMO.
If you're going for a full motor rebuild; re-bore of cylinders, blue printed bottom end, oversized pistons, bigger cams, new valve train etc etc I recon you'll be looking over 6k easy with parts

I spent 5k on my old megane coupe i had... F7R engine (standard in that car) it had fully ported, polished, bigger valves, uprated springs, solid lifters and the highest lift cams possible for that engine and it produced (without forged bottom) 225BHP at the wheels. If i do any work, ill be getting another engine to work on over time in my shed. Might even turbo it, ive not yet decided

In that case, an a8 or a7 is your best platform to start with then!
