You can get away with having a black/white/grey engine bay and coloured everything else though. People do it on purpose

Like said, the labour rate is massively bumped by stripping and fiiting...My mate with a pulsar is having his car sprayed in (no carpets) and out for around 3k. He stripped the car himself to the last clip, we paint it and no doubt i'll help him building it back up. If anyone were to plan on doing this, i'd be sending the car for dipping for peace of mind.

Depends how good a job you want and what you call a good job.
The vast majority of people will be happy with a poor paint job because it looks better than before.
Best to get quotes from different bodyshops and see examples of their work to see if it meets your expectations.
But since your only asking for a ballpark figure there's no point in wasting their time.
