Hey guys
Just done a few searches on the net for VTEC engine swaps on ludes but can't find much on it, I have a jdm lude with an f22b non VTEC would there be many changes to do if i wanted to put a VTEC lump in it? Or is it worth buying a VTEC lude? Only reason I ask is that mines in really good nick with only 50k on the clock but im starting to want sum VTEC in my life but don't want to give up a nice motor!
Cheers
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

On a 4g it's a straight swap, I did it a few years ago.
Not sure how it applies to a 5g though, but on a 4g -
You need the H22 engine loom, but the loom to the ECU is the same, the wire for the vtec signal is taped up where the under bonnet connectors are.
Gearbox, drive shafts etc are all the same as I remember.
The brakes on the non vtec are smaller though so it's worth upgrading them to the Vtec ones (Direct swap)

You've got the perfect motor to strap a turbo on. Will give you way more power than a N/A H22 and will probably cost less than swapping motors...

In what planet will it cost less? You can pick up h22s for less than a pint in London, I got given one ffs!A1ex wrote:You've got the perfect motor to strap a turbo on. Will give you way more power than a N/A H22 and will probably cost less than swapping motors...
F22b are perfect for boosting because of the iron liners and the fact you can fit after market pistons to them. But these aren't cheap, although cheaper than having a block sleeved.

morning Phil!
I meant the overall cost for someone like me who has to pay for things
The way I figured it out was it'll cost a fair bit less in labour to fit a turbo kit than do an engine swap.

Guess who's hungover?A1ex wrote:morning Phil
For a built motor then yes turbo will be cheaper but for the short term a h22 swap will give big gains for small cash!

I've got my 2.0 4th, with only 40k on the clock and that's despite driving it all over Europe on rallies, I'd love some extra kick to it and have thought about doing an engine swap... This thread is firing that dream up again.. interesting about the breaks, I'm assuming they are smaller on the 2.0 as well then? I need to change the discs cuz 2 days in the Pyrenees killed them.. and they aren't as good as my 5th breaks by a long shot... Is it just calipers and discs?, discs, or carriers as well?
Edit - sorry I don't want to hijack the thread was just thinking as I typed....

Disks and calipers are smaller on the 2L and the 2.2 Non Vtec.
2.3 and 2.2 Vtec have the larger brakes
That's for a 4g I don't know how that applies to a 5g.
For a F20 to H22 I think you need the gearbox as well and possibly the full engine wiring loom, drive shafts are the same though (You can use 2L drive shafts in a Vtec gearbox) Someone who's done the conversion will know better

Thanks for the ideas guys, been looking up turbo kits for the f22 seem to be a few on eBay from States, the turbo conversions sounds like a good idea, as mine has done only 50k it will hold on about 1 bar of boost just to play it safe, hopefully it sum thing I can do with out much labour cost! Has anyone on here done a turbo conversion that can give me tips?
