I tried to do something a wee bit different with mine as i knew that i was gonna do it on the cheap, and that if it went wrong, or didn't last, that i could re-do them again, cheap
I achieved this with rattle cans only:

Mainly black to hide the worst of the dirt but coloured the inserts to brighten them up a bit.
Still holding up fine but admittedly not had a really severe frost to deal with yet
