Now I am confused!
Where's Mr. Tedstone to chime in, collecting his '5th gen' still?

This was my older post about it;

It may make more sense. I was trying to explain the stud pattern around the bell housing is different

This is my understanding of the setup, in simple terms obviously. But basically, doesn't the perimeter of the box bolt onto the motor and the sump? With different stud patterns on the sump between the 4g & 5g which is why the 4g box has a couple of bolts missing when bolted up to a 5g motor & sump as the sumps stud pattern is different

Nope. The sump is attached to the engine block only. There is a brace/strengthener I believe which sometimes cannot be retro fitted. i.e. My H22A7 and U2TQ gearbox (ATR) fitted to my Prelude meant the brace could not be fitted due to the Prelude cross member.

basically the hip bones connected to the knee bone, the knee bones connected to the ankle bone, the ankle bones connected to the con rod and thats the way of the world.

i shall have a look at my newly aquired m2b4h225thgen tomorrow morning first thing and get back to you with an answer that can clear it up without the umm i think its this. and rob if you want a baffled sump i can do that for you for far less than 100 euros plus postage

if it aint broke don't fix it https://www.facebook.com/pages/tram-roa ... 8502699270

H22a (JDM 4th Gen) and H22a2 are tin sump - You will also require the windage tray rom the a or a2 if youwant to retrofit to a a5 or a8. These sumps use a gasket.
H22a5 and H22a8 are alloy sump (as are JDM 5th gen H22a)- these are a little deeper than the early tin sumps but are much heavier and harder to baffle. These sumps also use a "load bridge" that bolts to the sump and gearbox
H22a7 is tin sump - the deepest of the lot. You will need the windage tray from this engine (or the a2) to retro fit to an a5 or a8. You also need the oil pickup from the A7 due to the increased depth. The A7 engine also uses a "load bridge" at the bottom of the block that bolts to the gearbox but this does NOT attach to the sump. This is the best OE sump for H22s thanks to it's shape and depth...especialy f you wish to baffle it.
Word of caution - some (not all by any means) headers/downipes will foul on the a7 sump so some clearancing is required.

Knew we could rely on you Rich. Did someone summon you, or did you just hear the cries for help?
Can you recall which sump Marc (Dino) had? As I now have it. It was one you baffled. Just need to check I have everything else to run it now as I didn't think it was such a complex affair.
