I own 4 different 5G brochucres, released at different dates. The stated tyres sizes for the 2.2VTi are:

06/1997 - 195/65/R14 (2.0) & 205/50/R16 (2.2VTi).
06/1998 - 195/65/R14 (2.0), 205/50/R16 (2.0 Motegi), 205/50/R16 (2.2VTi) & 215/45/R17 (2.2VTi Motegi).
02/1999 - 195/65/R14 (2.0), 205/50/R16 (2.0 Motegi), 205/50/R16 (2.2VTi) & 215/45/R17 (2.2VTi Motegi).
01/2000 - 205/50/R16 (2000 Sport), 205/50/R16 (2000 Sport Motegi), 215/45/R17 (2.2VTi) & 215/45/R17 (2.2VTi Motegi).

My 2.2VTi (which I've Motegi'd) is running 225/45/R17.

Carrisma - Do you get any arch scrubbing from your front wheels going over bumps at speed

Also at full lock?

Would you say 225 width tyres provides a more comfier ride?

There's no rubbing issues at the front at all but there will be at the rear when the 4WS is doing its thing on full lock. The fix illustrated earlier sorts it. I used a Dremel type of tool to sort mine out.

In theory, it should be more comfy as there is more air in the tyre, but I've been running these size tyres for years and years so can't say for sure.

225/45 will give the same sidewall as the stock 205/50 so yes it will ride and handle better.
But this does depend on the Tyre used. My Ad08s are 225/45 but the sidewalls are stiffer than most street tyres and takes away the comfort.

Cheers guys

I have gone with the Uniroyals 225-45-R17. They are a very soft tyre so should give the comfort and quiet running i am looking for aswell as excellent wet weather grip

The car will probably look really different with the larger sidewall bulge

They don't bulge much, but is still more protection for your alloys.
