Steering wheel swap- what OEM boss?

Post by chrismc » Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:53 pm

I have recently swapped my OEM UKDM wheel (with cruise & airbag) for a momo wheel mounted on an aftermarket boss (listed as 2ws/non cruise)

I was planning on losing the cruise & airbags anyhow so not bothered about them- but there is now a gap behind the boss where the airbag SRS 'cable reel' thingy normally sits....

As such I need a different OEM boss so it can transfer power to the aftermarket boss to power the horn...

Does anyone know what I need? Non-airbag-non cruise OEM boss?

I have read it on here somewhere but now can't find it for the life of me! Grr :x

Any help gratefully appreciated!!

I'm kinda in the same boat. I have a DC2 mono wheel to go in my 4th, just need to sort the wiring! Are you handy with a soldering iron? Can send you more info tomorrow?

Yeah soldering is no bother!

I think? it's a non-cruise/non airbag contact ring I need (think it comes complete with indicator & wiper stalks)

Yeah the non-anything-but-horn boss is very straight forward. Here's some more pics for reference...

Mine's a stubby short hub by the way, but makes no difference.

Do you have any pictures of the issue you have at the moment?

I shall take a pic & post up!

Essentially I have a stubby aftermarket hub with contact ring, but a big gap to the rear with it fitted (area where the SRS cable reel normally sits)

Don't need cruise or airbag, but obviously need a working horn!

Chris - exactly the same here - all we need is a way to add a spring loaded contact into that gap. From fitting Vanzep's wheel - I remember all he had was effectively a bit of bent metal, held in place by a screw, with a piece of wire soldered to it. At this stage, i'm looking at doing the same and just fabbing my own version!

[edit] Like the item in the bottom of this piccie!
