Tyre size and brand confusion
Post by nickb » Tue Oct 16, 2012 8:11 pm
The prelude is my second car, bought just for fun and once I have the funds and Rich at PAW has done his thing i will be using for as many track days as i can afford. So I dont care about how long a tyre will last i want road tyres that will do me proud on track days.
I have 225/45 R17 tyres fitted at the moment. I see that the wiki says 215/40/17 is recommended and when i search blackcircles they recommend 215/45/17.
So first question is whats the best size for the use I want?
Then we come to tyre choice. A couple jump out at me from what I have seen so far. These are Toyo T1R, Toyo R1R and Yoko AD08. These look to get the best of both world where some more dedicated track tyres would be next to useless on a wet road.
Be interesting to see what you lude experts think.

I prefer Goodyear F1A2s on the 'Lude, for that reason; sheer all-roundability. And 215/45 x 17 like the door sticker say; nice & precise as it gently slides.
BTW; AD08s have a short, happy life, IME...if you want to track it, they have to be the choice.

I'm running 215/45/17 too
I think 40 is more usual as it gives an overall rolling dia closer to the standard wheel , i think anyways.
My lude came with 195/65/r14s when i bought it which works out at 609mm overall dia , my current give 625mm and if you go to 225/45/17 it will give 634mm , so quite an increase on stock , at least on my 2.0i it is

You guys with 2.2's would have had larger standard alloys rather than my 14 inch steelies

Cheers
