Merlin wrote:Nick I would love it to be fitted before the year is out but I know it isnt going to happen. I need to get a new clutch and sort out the M2P4 I have sitting here for it. Mind you I might happen a lot quicker if I strip and punt my H22a7 :D

I will try my best to get it in as quick as possible as I'm interested to see how ~250 bhp/T will compare with my current ~190 bhp/T
Well dont rush to get rid of the H22a7 just yet - theres also you old engine which is very strong imo.
I know youve got your heart set on the 5th gen box but dont forget ive got a spare 4th gen one with funky ratios if you get stuck.

Someone also put up a link for cheap oem parts - i had a quick look and type r clutch kit is about £135 which is stronger than the standard prelude one - might be worth looking into. Good price. ;)

Yeah I'll probably need a JDM Lude there as a reference. My car is JDM but the engine is UK so the loom has been adapted for that, who knows where the knock sensor wire is (fingers crossed its there somewhere).

I cant run an organic clutch. With the type of driving I'll be doing, with that power, I need a paddle clutch.

Since I'm getting this new engine the H22a7 is now surplus, hence its being broken up and sold to fund this new build ;) So an intake ATR mani with 62mm TB + fuel rail and injectors, PDE head with cams and gears, and block with 11:1 pistons will soon be available 8-)

The engine, and a shift of timetable

Post by Merlin » Mon Oct 15, 2012 12:38 pm

After a 720 mile round trip I came away from south Wales with an all motor H22a and a hangover  Many thanks to Dino and his wife for putting me and 3rdGenSteve up for the night.

So it's here now. The only thing stopping me from fitting it straight away is that I need to acquire a few much needed parts to go with it. Namely, intake and filter, clutch, baffled sump, oil cooler, water & oil temp and pressure guages, and a new interior blower set up.

The only negative thing about buying this engine is that it cost more than half of my original budget for making the 2014 Time Attack season, so unfortunatley I'm having to bump my entry back a year to 2015. I think you'll agree its a worthwhile sacrifice. The other plus side, other than having a new great engine, is that I can spend more time and ££££'s on getting the car more competitive and investing in better components than my original budget allowed for.

I know that   I saw in Dino's for sale thread. I'm going to see if PAW will make me one once I tell them what the car will be used for.

Yeah Lude_Dude I got the ECU. I told Dino I wanted everything that goes with the engine that contributes to its power as I was only interested in a direct swap with no mucking about. Our exhausts are very similar which only leaves me trying to replicate his intake kit.
