Re: My 3rd generation BA5 B20A 2.0I.16 4WS
brown trouser moment today.... jobby NO BRAKES!!!!!!
Whilst driving home from work this evening, lit a fag and just pottering along. steady flow of traffic about 40 mph, nice long road just the norm.
coming up to a round about, pressed the brakes lightly to slow up and the brake felt soft. applied more pressure and nothing. pedal hit the stop, car still rolling... pumped pedal and whipped up the hand brake. lucky escape as nothing got hit.
pulled over and the rear passenger brake was smoking and the wheel was boiling hot. SEIZED CALIPER.
Allowed the brake to cool and the pedal had returned. limped the car home.
removed the wheel and undid the caliper from the carrier, pads were crumbling and brittle and the rust on the disc has turned a shade of crimson.
lifted the seal boot up from the piston and its all rusty. so i wound the piston in and pumped it out and wound it in and pumped it out ( i could carry this on) refitted old pads and re-assembled the caliper to the carrier. undid the resevoir top and my goodness, the fluid was like used engine oil. black and quite thick in comparison to new. i only had a litre of fresh fluid in the garage so i only bled the one brake through.
seems to have temporarily fixed it getting a price for a new one monday.
phew
