Audio Guru's - Advise please
Post by Ammo » Sun Sep 09, 2012 11:21 am
Not for the lude but for the Golf. It currently has OEM speakers hooked up to a Pioneer headunit, which as i'm not an audio purist is ok, but can't handle and bass at all without distortion.
I don't want to go down the route of amps and subs (I have the in the lude) as I don't want to lose any space in the back but would like a better rounder sound (without costing the earth)
Any suggestions?

Change the speakers for sure, OEM so probably at the end of their lives
Looking for a BB1, know of one for sale?

I put some Vibe 6x9's in the parcel shelf of my Mk2 Golf, they were epic at bass until the parcel shelf snapped in half
I'm not sure what their smaller speakers are like, but if they're anywhere near as punchy as the 6x9's were then I'd say go with Vibe
I've got all alpine in my Golf now, and whilst the sound quality is good they don't kick out bass very well. On the plus side the Alpine 6x9's mount in the OEM rear speaker location rather than the parcel shelf

spend 40£ on sounddeadening and you will regain maybe 3-5db. this will be the missing depth you are looking for. at the moment all that bass is turning into kinetic energy through the metal panels and being lost. This is why it gets to distortion before you get anything out of it. the speakers will be shagged through age so they can no longer overcome the inherant energy loss into the chassis.
sound deadening first. speakers second.
