Leaky interior heater fix

Post by Merlin » Wed Aug 15, 2012 10:16 am

I have a temporary fix for my leaky interior heater untill have have the time and spare cash to get the micro heater matrix bought and fitted. I got a length of new 19mm (3/4") heater hose to loop off the system inside the car. This way I can simply cut the new hose and install the micro matrix 8-).

Shitty iPhone pics but it was dark.

Yup, still need to bolt in the dash and refit the clocks and loom. Going to tempt fate and install the new driver side driveshaft before sunday :scaredtoss: I have 2 quarts of Amsoil MTF sitting here as the gearbox will be drained to get the driveshaft out.

Total Jap Car 2012

Post by Merlin » Wed Aug 22, 2012 9:13 am

18/08/12 - Total Jap Car

Format - 5 x 10 minute sessions
Cost - £50
Conditions - Roasting hot in the morning, overcast in the afternoon

This was the first time I had used the MaxSport semi-slicks on this car. Even though they can take some punishment the extremely hot weather in the morning meant they over heated after 4-5 laps, resulting in a bit of understeer. My brakes took a total pounding as well in the extreme heat. Not the best day to be on track after you have just ripped out the blower system

In the afternoon the temperature cooled a bit and I was able to set a new PB of 66s (a second quicker than my previous best). As it was Total Jap Car it was an oppertunity to take a few of the LG guys out for passenger laps.

For once a vid with some action in it (that has decent lap times). Me and a DC2 Integra having a play.

I changed the drivers driveshalft last weekend which has sorted most of the judder, however it is still there a wee bit so its into the garage this Friday to have the other side replaced.

Re: Merlin's 4G Track Lude - Total Jap Car track vid

Thanks, generally I am well behaved but on this day I was avoiding getting close to the many n00bs on track. I was particularly giving the BMW's a wide berth after nearly hitting one earlier in the day (he was driving like a tool).

All the BMW's on track were being total knobs. The number of near misses as they "drifted" round the hairpin only barely in control and just avoiding other cars was unbelievable :x

Later I'll stick up the vid of me having to take evasive steps so to not hit the kebab when he spun right in fornt of me. Unfortunatley my vid of one of them almost wiping out and other car did not record :(

Fingers crossed my judder issues should be sorted completly now. Before I was getting judder at motorway speeds and during braking. In my Knockhill reverse vid you can hear the braking judder vibration making my front polybushes chirp. Also when braking lightly I could hear an initail clunk coming from roughly where the drivers driveshaft cup is.

The day before Total Jap Car me and 3rdGenSteve drained the gearbox (Steve commenting it was the cleanest box oil he had ever seen ) and swaped out the drivers shaft. There was a lot of play in the inner CV joint. Result!, I thought. Unfortunately I was still getting a bit of judder at speed and braking, although nowhere as bad as before.

The car was in the garage today getting the passenger side and intermediate shaft replaced as I dont have the time to do it myself before next weeks track day. I hope that it is all sorted :D
