New flexi (eventually)

Post by indigolemon » Wed Aug 01, 2012 2:12 pm

After grounding out thanks to rain washing all the gravel in a driveway away, I trashed the flexi section of the ebay special downpipe. £15 later, I had a new flexi from eBay to weld in - so last night ...

Start: Leave house at 6pm and head to lockup 40 mins away:

Middle: Help others working at lockup, accept offer to have shot of Lotus Elise (wheeeee!), generally do things other than the job required. Finally start work on the downpipe at 9ish.

Stage 01 - Cut out the old flexi. Job done in less than a minute, God Bless angle grinders and cutting discs.
Stage 02 - Discover that the eBay special downpipe is not 2.25" diameter as I'd thought. It's closer to 2".
Stage 03 - Panic and commence bodging.
Stage 04 - Continue bodging.
Stage 05 - Finish bodging.
Stage 06 - Start welding.
Stage 07 - Run out of flux.
Stage 08 - Find more flux, on a reel too big to use in your welder.
Stage 09 - Spend ages transferring flux to a reel that does fit your welder.
Stage 10 - Finally finish welding.
Stage 11 - Offer downpipe up to car, and commence bolting back together. Get covered in exhaust paste.
Stage 12 - Finish, fire car up - success.
Stage 13 - Tidy up, drive 40 minutes home.

End: Get home at 2.14am, have long shower to remove all grit/dirt/mud/exhaust paste. Get to bed at 2.40am.

Aftermath: Wake up for work at 9.20am - I start at 9am :(

Not a massive update, but I have (courtesy of Ammo) added these to my boot:

Also, still to fit:
  • ATR Calipers
  • Resprayed JDM rear bumper - bye bye fog light!

all i can say is about time  - the prelude sign is sooooo much better than the lettering that said METP - i know it was the previous owner that put that on and ive still no idea what it meant.... :?

youve kept quite about the atr calipers.... 8-)

i know about the jdm bumper - and agree no fog light = win :)

It was me that stuck MET P on the car :D The lude badge was scabby, but removing it leaves two holes. I made use of some stickers I had kicking about for my mates band 'METAMAP' to cover them
