have to agree with Nathan but not fully
when i fitted my lowering springs i had the advantage of spares from my 2.3i and found that the bump stops in my oem dampners were perished and cut 1/4 of an inch off of them (dont do this
when you hit a bump it hurts
)
so stripped again and fitted the 2.3 bump stops (which did appear to be longer than the ones from the 2.2)
that may have taken some of the travel from the oem dampner.
but my top mount bushes were not worn but they did seem to be a little slack in their fit in the top mounts, so again fitted the ones from the 2.3 and again when torqued up there was still play in the top mounts
so looked it up online and it did appear that Honda aknowledged years ago they used the wrong top mount bushes in gen4's and there was supposed to be a recall that never happened
to fix it!!!
it was said to use bushes that had a 2mm wider diameter to fill the mount or fit the washers to compress the bushes to fill the mount and stop the play
it worked in mine a treat and there is no movement at all.
so it seems you do have to do all to get the right results as i too had to renew the drop links as well
worth doing it though as all 20 year old cars are bound to suffer.

No mate, it was aimed at the opening poster mal1953A1ex wrote:If that questions for me, Ive got jdm tein basic coilovers (from LLL) would changing the top hats help?

But yes there is a possibility that new top mount bushes could solve it, but also new drop links could also be the cause as previously stated.
My statement is correct mate... The rest of your solution has nothing to do with my pointDbo wrote:have to agree with Nathan but not fully![]()

Re: dreaded shock knock
Thanks for all replies, as I mentioned a few weeks ago the car failed the mot on broken rear springs, the car has already been lowered 40mm, so I changed the complete shocks and springs with a pair that I purchased from josefsan the car then passed the mot, but the car was too high on the back because the springs were original, so I bought a complete set of pi 40mm lowering springs, but since fitting the rear springs I have this knocking when going over bumps. What I should have done was to keep my original shocks to see what spacers were there but they were picked up by a scrappy! ps There was no knocking until these new springs have been fitted.

I wonder if it could be the springs bud. I recently fitted a set of Pi 40mm lowering springs and ever since then I have a knocking noise on the NSR
I've not gone out of my way to sort the issue yet. I also have a suspected knackered droplink bush from where I knackered it refitting it and also the lower control arm bush looks a bit ragged it also. I plan on replacing these before I determine that it's definitely the springs, but it does sound like it's coming from the top of the shock.

dont forget lowering a car will highlight any issues you have with bushes or links the only reasons a shock would knock with lowering springs and not with normal springs is that either the spring isnt right for the car wrong poundageor the shock isnt done up correctly ie spring not seated or top mounts loose get it in the air and go over all the bolts and bushes

Re: dreaded shock knock
Just a quick reply to say that the shock knock has been cured by using the washer method on top of the dampers in the boot, I ended up having to use 6mm thick washers, ie one on each side, one thing I had trouble with was centralizing the washer over the bush which fits in the bore of the rubber bushes, I eventually found it much easier to remove both the rubber dampers and just push the steel bush up through the rubbers so it protrudes above the top rubber bush dont worry about this because it will be pushed back down when the nut is tightened up. When the rubber dampers are put back on the bush should be slightly proud of the rubber and you can now locate the washer centrally. Hope this helps anyone doing this fix.I made my washers from aluminium 38mm outside 15mm inside, I have a few left over of 4mm and 5mm thickness, if anyone is stuck for some please pm me. Many thanks for reading. Ps you still must use the existing washer, this is what pushes the centre bush down.
Re: dreaded shock knock
Hi Guys,
I've got the dreaded shock-knock on the NSR after going back to OEM suspension - I'm off to Halfords tomorrow but was wondering, if I add washers to one side, should I do the same to the opposite side to 'balance' things out???
Things were ok with the lowering kit apart form the ride on these lovely roads around here, but as soon as I changed back to the OEMS, I've go the knock - so it's not bushes or anything along those lines...
Thanks for all advice,
Dobbs.
