The Track Almera

Picked this up the other night from Retro Rides forum

plans are a budget track day toy.

Start by stripping most of this
Image

followed by most of this

Image

Got a set of reclining buckets in my loft, theres a pair of harnesses at the shop.

a few little tweeks to the engine and a damn good service. Go right over all the suspension with a fine toothed comb. Inspect and replace any iffy looking brake lines (possible run them internal) better brakes and hit a few brandshatch days.

And if I can find a supplier of cds or suitable tube at a reasonable price, custom make a rollcage.

Going to stay black, but sort a few of the minor rust issues and sticker it up blue and white.

Stuck a filter on it the other day as I got one for free off a mate

Image

changed the plugs and order a cap and rotor which I should have monday

Image

rattled the guts out of the smelly cat and advanced the timing to 15deg.

Got to drop the sump and see if I stand any chance of welding up the pin hole in it.

Been busy today playing with free power :D

What came out!

Sump has been replaced and no more oil leak. The rotor arm was the wrong one unfortunately but we'll get that sorted.

Going to attack the sound deadening on Saturday and get that extra weight out, and maybe cut the dash in half.

I was torn between one of these and first Prelude.

I used to have an Sri, they handle surprisingly well stock.

If I remember right there's some free power to be had by removing the resonator from the standard air intake (can't see if it was already removed with your new pod filter)

I may have some parts lying around in the attic still, I'll have a look and let you know next time I take my brave pills and head up there (sooo many spiders)

LOL Yea, for a cheap track toy for me and my mates to have a laugh in it'll be a good one. Definitely need to cut the gear stick down some as it reminds me too much of driving a Transit at the moment! Got good power to it and handles pretty well. I was suggesting we go for a 4th gen VTEC as a track car but the Almera GTi came up at too good a price to resist!

I think I may randomly have a front under strut brace for one of these in my garage.

Seems like quite a few people on here used to have Nissans. I'm surprised really to be honest!

If anyone has any spare bits lemme know, we're always interested in bits to help get it track ready. So far the total cost has been £700, including buying it, taxing it, bucket seats, 4 point harnesses, service, ignition tune up and a new sump, so we're doing well so far :D
