I got a result like that today, won a set of bike carbs from a CBR600, a few I was watching at the weekend went for £50, I got mine for £16 at about 2:58pm todaynickyboy wrote:The key to winning on eBay is bidding on items that end at awkward oclock. I won a Sky HD+ box for £30 because it ended at 11am on a weekday, another I was bidding on ended at 9pm for £89

Used my usual tactic - choose my max price (£30 in this case), round it up to the nearest odd number (£31) then add 99p to be safe before firing it in with a couple of seconds to go

using the 99p tactic wont always work as the higher the price goes the larger the bid increments are, for example at around £40 with a 99p start the big increments are larger than 99p. this happend to me a few times, example- i was the highest bidder but i didnt win because although my bid was higher than the winner it didnt get over the threshhold for me to actually win. for instance say an item is at £80 and i bid £80.99p and someone else bids £80 then if the next increment is over 99p he will beat me if he bid first. yeh bit confusing i know, had me scratching my head a few times.

But if the current winner is winning at £40 and his maximum bid is £80, if I enter £80.99 I will win it at £80.99.

er no, i dont, i have been beaten like this loads of times. i used to list items which i had won on say german ebay, sell the item on uk ebay, the buyer here pays for the item i then pay the shop in germany with some of the money from my buyer and send my buyers address as the delivery address to the german shop, they then post item direct to my buyer. some times i would be beaten even though my bid was higher than the person who won, i would then get a message explaining why. it would say something like although my bid was the highest i hadnt won because i hadnt bid enough to reach the next bid increment, theres a piece on this in the ebay help section.
i made a shed load like this
genius
i even sell items i have brought on european shops, like motorcycle parts

Well in all my years I've never lost an auction like that (And I've won a lot of auctions). The only times I've lost is because the winning amount has been more than what I've bid... Never less. Either you're doing something wrong, or I'm the luckiest ebayer

supose its law of avrages, i was bidding and winning maybe 8-10 items a day, my work mates were taking the pee saying i had blackberry thumb (a flat thumb from the track ball) i had to stop as i got very frightend about VAT, i figured (after going through my paypal) i owed upto 30k in vat
how on earth would i pay that
my misses had spent all of it
now considering maybe i should run this legit, i still have loads of contacts from all of this
another reason i stopped was because i also sold shedloads of cheap chineese crappy chainsaws, some were investigated by dom (dont get mad, get dom
) omg what have i done
i had to close my ebay account and loose my 10000plus feedbacks at 99.2% posative
started another now and it has taken me ages to get to about 350
i still do the genius sale when im skint but im trying not too, honest
