If it snapped at dizzy end it stopped running for lack of spark, not lack of breathing.
It's the REASON it snapped, though; bearings welded due to lack of lubrication? Could be serious problems down below.

if the cam broke, it would depend on where abouts in its rotation it was when it broke if it has or hasnt bent valves, if it wasnt in vtec you should be fine, same as with cam belt. the problem will be debris from the cam floating around your engine (if any). you need to remove offending artile and examine very carefully to see if any parts are missing. if all ok i would still change the oil and filter. can you see the cam has broken? are you sure its the cam, as you say its the exhaust cam i would presume you have looked. no its not uncommon although i have never seen one break on a h22 motor. hay look on the bright side, nows the perfect time to fit more agressive cams
most failers i have seen were simply down to fatigue, check the cam bearings though, i would have thought there would be other simptoms first if it was running dry (oil prob), like for instance a mis firing motor

My snapped cam. luckily when I refitted new cams and timed her up everything was ok.
Just was wondering if I may have increased my horse power because I reused h22 cams
And my engine is h22a5 thanks dan
