Theres quite a bit of sanding left to do, bit more rough sanding then the whole thing again with finer and finer paper. Then painting the "DOHC VTEC". Should be fun

Also, the poly inserts for the engine have made a huge difference! The car vibrates ALOT at idle, but when cruising along or even just driving normally its fine. Other than making a nice difference to cars response theres a lot of rattles to sort out now

Still got the IM to finish cleaning and send off, thats the next big job :D

Also, pictures yaaay!

First off, valve clearances. This is where you measure them:
Image
Between the cam lobe and the rocker (the rocker is the bit that sits between the valve and the cam lobe. The lobe pushes it to open the valve).

Image

And this is how VTEC adjusts the valves:

The large lobe in the middle is the VTEC lobe. You can see that its moving the rocker, however as VTEC isn't engaged it isn't affecting the two primary rockers (they're two separate entities at this point).

Image

During VTEC, the central rocker (the seconday rocker) is attached to the two primary rockers. I'm not sure on the specifics, I think its a pin thats moved by the oil pressure that pins the 3 together? When the VTEC lobe moves the seconday rocker, and therefore the two primaries, it increases the amount the valves open, you can see how much larger the VTEC lobe is compared to the primaries!

Cylinders 3 (left) and 2 (right). You can see the VTEC lobe is moving the rocker on cylinder 3.

New cover with seals:

And clearances done and polished cover fitted:

And other gratuitous shots after a nice clean and polish. I used Turtle Wax wheel cleaner and Turtle Wax Tyre shine, brilliant products!

Maxxis MA551, brilliant tyres! Not sport, not economy, not brilliant in the wet but quiet and very nice in the dry. I wouldn't recommend them for fast road though, they're cheap and brilliant for the price. Going to try the Maxxis MAZ1 this time around, need to get new tyres soon.

I set all my clearances to 0.006 intake and 0.007 exhaust (i.e. 0.007 won't fit on the intake and 0.008 won't fit on the exhaust side).

The VTEC crossover now is so smooth the only way you can tell is the power keeps coming and the exhaust note changes! I also fitted a VTEC backbox courtesy of Indigo (to whom I'm sending a nice new radiator). I did that first and it made quite a difference.

Next job is yet another drop-link  But thanks to Jozef I should have one soon :) He's also looking at some custom made to size drop links that are also a bit thicker.

Heres how they keep breaking:

p.s forgot the new IM!

Thank Performance Autoworks!! Just need to get the IM gaskets and the injector seals now :) Only problem is the vacuum lines on my current IM chamber and this one are different, so I'll be using my current one. Not a problem because its very easy to clean, the part I really want to replace is the manifold and thats all good :)

Yeah still a bit list but as I can't make it to Japshow its not as much of a rush :( Definitely need a new windscreen though, impossible to see when the sun hits it i has so many chips! And now the cars polished I can see how many small dents the passenger door has

And the paints mottled in places, and, and, and, so much to do

Keep at it and you will get there in the end.
My list is really quite small now. Mostly service stuff like fluid changes. :-P
