Brake disc protection?

Brake disc protection?
Post by vtectom » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:20 pm
I've been thinking of ways of protecting my brake discs whilst
my track car is parked up, as they always get that annoying
layer of rust on them.
I found this idea but now need to source some cheaply;

Anybody found something like this?

if your parking it up for a long time take the wheels and discs off and leave it on stands

It seems the inner sides of my 'Lude's rears get roughest and even a long drive doesn't always surface them up after a while. Dunno how you'll deal with that.
Some sort of spray, but I dunno what's safe.

might be a stupid suggestion but how about a bin bag over each wheel. you could jack it up a bit put a bin bag over the whole wheel , brakes and up as far as you can on the axels etc then sit it back down?

You'd get condensation inside, and no way of 'airing' out, so I reckon that would be worse.white rabbit wrote:might be a stupid suggestion but how about a bin bag over each wheel. you could jack it up a bit put a bin bag over the whole wheel , brakes and up as far as you can on the axels etc then sit it back down?
As Merc said, take the wheels and discs off and stick it on axle stands

This is silly.
Just drive and brake hard somewhere safe on your road. Job done. Brakes back to normal.
I drive my Lude once a week if that and do it everytime with no issues.

imo putting a tesco bag over each hub and hooking the loops over and round the back of the shocks works a treat. I did exactly this for the white lude. I had all the disc's freshly faced and the bags worked perfectly. This was during january and febuary this year. lots of rain, snow ice etc.
no condensation. just clean bright metal. I took the bags off in prep to put the wheels on and it rained a bit. I could see each and every raindrop where it had hit and marked the metal. two months sat on blocks outside? nothing. 3 mins of rain? rusty raindrop marks.
easy ghettofix.

I leave my cars parked up for long periods, be it over the winter for my 5G or when my 4G breaks and I cant be bothered to fix it. Both get rusty discs, but that isnt the main issue for a Lude being sat for so long. Sticking brakes is the thing you need to look out for after a Lude has sat for so long.
