I have always used the factory head unit, however I am about to buy a double DIN stereo. What converter harness do I need to get?
This thing? https://www.halfords.com/technology/car ... 81907.html
I have ordered a set of these speaker adapters, so I can use the OEM speaker plugs without having to chop anything https://incartec.co.uk/product/Honda-Ac ... air-41-012
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

It's worth getting the speaker ones - the looms in the front doors have very little slack which makes it hard to crimp or make use of the existing wires.
The wires in mine (2000 year) were really thin and quite brittle it seemed. Also, the insulating coating was very tough/hardened and covered in an oily residue which made stripping/crimping it a little unpleasant.
Again the rear speaker harness is also really short. I fitted my 6x9s then had to remove them and refit them the other way around to get around the short loom issue. Using those adaptors will make the job much easier (I should have done it myself, annoyed that I didn't).
Regarding double din head units, the prelude opening in the fascia is is larger than most double din units. My Pioneer , even when fitted with the additional plastic bezel that clips to the head unit, I still have ~5mm of space either side. I tried using 2 different prelude brackets as well to no avail.
Also, I'm sure its obvious, make sure you get one with a physical volume control - my pure touchscreen one is really Clubbing Eddy and I completely hate it (until I get around to fitting the mk8 civic steering wheel controls).

Yeah, that was something I wanted. I have kept the factory surround and hopefully that will work.
