They're great! If you've got ground clearance  When they're first fitted take it easy, see if it scrapes much etc. If it does, remove it immediately. I have a sneaking suspicion that when it was catching all the time (and eventually RIPPED off almost! It was *just* hanging on) that it bent the control arm/damaged the driveshaft. Now it may not have, it all could just be a coincidence, but either way if you're not careful it'll end up coming off under the car (where it bolts on, that had all but sheared off, it was essentially hanging loose and scraping on the ground on the way into the garage!)

I've still got it in my garage at the moment so I can take some pics, show you what I mean about it almost coming off.

On the plus side though much stiffer front end! ;)

Had the lower control arm bushing and the passenger side driveshaft replaced. Turns out the passenger side steering rack gaiter is split and the drivers side ARB drop link is broken  So I've ordered those two. Hopefully get them fitted next week (if the garage can fit me).

Planning on fitting the projector lights on Saturday, starting the work tomorrow night. That'll be on big job crossed off the list! Once thats done order the gaskets and parts from Honda and get another few items crossed off!

Pics of the projector beams:

Really bad photo because I moved! The passenger side has a slight bump near the middle, hence putting it on the passenger side. Fitting these should stop the reflectors throwing HID light all over the place :)

List updated again, and fitted my HID projectors!

Difference is AMAZING. I can actually see where I'm going! I've got the lights angeled down quite low so its not shining off into the distance when going up/down hills (basically so its never in anyones eyes) but I can see quite a bit ahead still, and with the high beams on I can see miles away!

Gave the inside a proper clean as well, the reflectors and chrome bits were filthy! No wonder the light is so bad. I'll get the few pictures I managed to take up when I can.

Yup - this update is useless without pictures

Uploading the pics now, I'll go through them tomorrow :) Just wondering if I adjust the headlights too low, the edge of the projector housing will catch on the chrome bits at the front of the headlight housing and might put the glue/silicone under too much stress, then boom they come loose (and no more opening of these lights!). I'll have to tinker with the adjustment screws and see whats what.

Projectors fitted

Post by JayJay » Wed Feb 16, 2011 9:31 am

Here as some pics :D

The two bolts are just under this edge here:

Image

You remove the indicators by poking a screwdriver in this hole at a very very rusty screw:

Few other bolts dotted around (easy ones) and tada!

The ballasts and other wiring fitted. There is LOADS of space, but nowhere to bolt it in. I feel safer with cable ties than sticky pads, the wiring is nice and secure:

The lights apart:

Theres three parts to the light unit: The back housing, the front lense, and a bit of chrome screwed to the front lense.

Back of the housing:

Lense with chrome front:

What I did was stick it in the oven, at 100 degrees (fan oven!!!) and removed it every few minutes and had another go at getting it apart. It was in fact very very easy! As soon as its apart enough to get your fingers in just pull :|

Once it was apart, I removed the low beam chrome backing and cut a hole to fit the projector:

Image

The projector was then siliconed in and later glued in with plastic weld. Whilst this was drying I took the front lense/chrome apart and soaked the lense in washing up liquid in the house and gave the chrome a good clean. DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS! 15 years of grime does affect the light lol I've noticed all my lights seem brighter now after removing this grime.

As this had taken all day I covered the front up and had a few drinks with friends in town :D

Image

Next day I added the glue to projectors to make them a bit stronger and assembled the lights. I removed ALL the old glue from the lights and siliconed them back together. Good thing is, they should be properly sealed now. Bad thing is, cant open them again  Unfortunately some water DOES appeared to have gotten into the passenger side light, I need to investigate further...

Image

After extending the gnd and +ve wires a bit I hooked it all up and it worked! Next was to fit it all to the car properly and then replace the bumper.

No pictures of the finished article, yet ;) Unfortunately one of the really rusty indicator screws refused to grip the metal bracket, so its duck-taped in position :) But the improvement has been incredible. I can see where I'm driving!

Yay, more parts :D

The Amsoil Synthetic MTF is here, and I just picked up:

- Distributor cap
- Distributor rotor
- Throttle bypass plate gasket x 2
- Throttle body gasket
- EGR valve gasket
- Fuel filter

From Honda for a measly £135  Getting there slowly.

Pictures :) Garage fitted the spare wheel after finding out a brand new £120+ Eagle F1 had been decimated when fitted    The garage that fitted it (that I dont use anymore) had ripped chunks out of the inside of the tyre where it joins with the alloy, so no wonder it was leaking! Also not very safe. So they're replacing that tyre and I'll get em to check the rest as well on Monday. £160 for a new tyre

One with the 15s, fitted them again this morning so I dont have to use the spare wheel!

Think I prefer her with 17s, the handling is also more how I like it!
