1991 4TH Gen JDM Si Vtec

Post by vanzep » Mon Oct 23, 2017 5:52 pm

This lude has always had an occasional/intermittent low idle once driven- dips to about 400-500rpm before levelling off at 650rpm and just felt a tiny bit lumpy.
So time to clean the EGR valve out - no pics as youve all seen it before - it was full of crud and the 2 ports in the intake manifold needed cleaned out as well. 12mm socket on a thin bar ,small flat blade screwdriver and tin of carb cleaner and the job was done. Was the usual struggle to get the egr out and only real downside was i managed to scratch the spoon strut brace
Job was well worth doing as it has cleared the idle issue and made the engine run a fair bit smoother.
Really should be part of the maintenance schedule ;)
Here is a link to marts lude build which shows pics of gunked up egr (half way down the page) :)

:) thanks - its always satisfying to get these little niggles sorted out - there never seems to be just one obvious thing that needs done- more like lots of little jobs that eventually add up to a good result ;)
i guess there is no shame in me admitting that its taken me nearly two years to sort this idle issue

Not at all - and that's because some of the rest of us never get round to little things like this

MOT Pass / New guage

Post by vanzep » Tue Dec 12, 2017 11:50 am

The BB1 is in for its MOT today!

As luck would have it the temp/fuel section of the dash went on the way there
It had been dimming in and out yesterday but it came up when starting the car but has gone out completely now :x
The dash warning lights and clock still works and its only the temp/fuel bit thats gone so fairly sure it shouldn't cause any issue with getting it through.
Fortunately ive got a spare guage with TCS :)

Couple of pics from a few months earlier
