Nick, that is one of the most diplomatic sentences I've ever read. You should be heading up a negotiating delegation at the UN with that tact.
I know what you really meant though, "Simon, I bet you've driven six or seven reasonable paint shops absolutely bonkers, due to your niggly, stubborn, anally retentive and obsessive demands."
Ever thought of a career with the Diplomatic Corps? ;)

Can you recommend a good machine polisher, and compounds, etc.?

I am seriously thinking of having a go at mine, after seeing this!

To be honest, I don't use a polisher, I've tried and it doesn't run over the 'edges' of the bodywork properly, neither does it work near and under the spoiler, the front and rear bumpers and around the mirrors.
It's just good old fashioned elbow grease, using Meguiar's Gold Class car shampoo, their Carnauba wax and lots of microfibre cloths. :D
It's bloody hard work but exceptionally rewarding. :D
