The oil was changed 2 months ago.

It would be worth checking the balancer shaft belt and/or bearing as well.

Sorry to revive this thread but did you ever find out what the noise was? I've got the same thing going on with mine at the moment.

I had a new timing belt and manual tensioner fitted a month after and never heard it again ;)

I've already got the manual tensioner on my car though and thus only started happening after I had an ATR head installed? :?

Sorry I wasn't saying the manual tensioner cured it, but I think possibly one of the components of the original setup may have been the cause.

It may sound stupid but could it be a begenning of lack of oïl pressure?

The head is the "last" part on the oiling circuitry, so when the engine is at idle, the oïl pressure is at the lowest value ( when the engine is hot) and if there's a lack of oïl pressure, the head may sound "noisy" ...

Maybe a change of the quality of oïl could solve the problem or begin by checking the oïl pressure at idle with a warm engine :D

I was hoping it was the lmas, changed over to the ported and polished head with 3 angle valve job, valve adjustments were set up twice and I've been using a shortie filter for a while and only started making the noise after new head went on and then switched to fully synthetic and still does it and now I've even got a problem where my idle keeps creeping up to about 2k when the engine is warm...

Could somebody tell me more about what you are calling a "shorty filter" please?

Is it an oïl filter which is smaller than the oem to help keeping a higer oïl pressure?
