Re: BB4-62MM 5th Gen Throttle Body Fitted

Post by vanzep » Sun Mar 26, 2017 5:14 pm

My BB4 has been off the road for nearly a month as one of the coolant hoses was leaking badly, beyond repair and needed replaced -Honda dont do the hose anymore so i had to track down the part in USA made by Gates - got that fitted on Thursday and went for a run on Saturday :) - the car pulls well but had a bit of clutch slip at 6000> rpm when hard on the gas - im hoping that was due to heat build up in slow moving town traffic on a hot day - havent had any time to investigate this as rest of the weekend was spent fixing another lude owners BB4 8-)

yep planning on going to Crail on the 9th of April.
all the BB4's are in Edinburgh and if you count Merlins track BB4 then thats 4 in total that are known about 8-)

think ive found the problem that i thought was clutch slip - id forgotten to connect the air intake to the tb  that and it being warm weather meaning the car was struggling to get enough cold air in at high rpm.....

ive started redoing the rust on the passenger side arch - good news it is still mostly all there and is solid metal - the bit where the bumper meets the back of the arch has gone though  still thats not a total surprise

he has welded a plate in on the drivers side where the front of the arch meets the sill - that was done last year :)
the passenger side which im working on should be ok with a bit of filler for now ;)

Prep for 1/4r mile (4th run)

Post by vanzep » Wed Apr 05, 2017 1:23 pm

Quick oil change and hamp shortie oil filter and thats it :)

Plan is to head up to Crail on Sunday and gatecrash the "Fast Ford" meeting

Will be interesting to see how the lude performs with the 5th gen 62mm throttle body.
This is the only change ive made since last time out.
Target is to get to 100mph at the finish line.

Assuming you've done an ECU reset?

Also, I wouldn't fancy leaving that plastic rivet in the MAP sensor port. The last thing you want is it breaking up due to fluctuating temperatures and the end getting sucked into your engine :? Why not just make up a plate?

ecu was rest a couple of months ago when the tb was done.
:)
its all running nicely

all is good with the plastic rivet
i have checked it a couple of times and its not changed in anyway since i fitted it - sure a plate of some sort would be better long term.

 i will take another rivet with me on sunday just in case

I wouldn't expect the rivet to fail straight away... It'll be once you've forgotten it ;) I wouldn't scrimp and you could do the job properly cheap enough anyway.
