Rear Brakes Binding

Lo Peops :D
Today I felt my Lude wasn't quite right :?
I thought my brakes may be binding , when I stopped the car my front calipers were touchable but both the rears were very Hot.
So I guess my handbrake is not releasing the rear brakes as both sides are hot :?:
Is this a common problem :?:
I quess both sides need freeing up with grease or something.
What do you guys think :?:

mine was like this after being stood for 9 years ended up getting a good pair of rear calipers and swapping them over , might pay to check that the handbrake cables are nice and free first , may even be a slider problem think its going to be a case of getting the wheels off to see which is causing the binding
success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm :D :D

It's probably the caliper slider pins, corrosion on the pad carrier surfaces where the pads sit causing the pads to stick, or the handbrake cable-caliper handbrake lever pivot pin, seized.

All three are extremely common problems on the rear of Honda's, Toad.

I've be amazed if you need anything more than a thorough strip down, clean and rebuild, to restore the correct movement.

You'd need to check the discs and pads haven't been damaged through overheating now though, too.

Honda haven't changed their rear disc caliper design since the mid-eighties... and it wasn't great then. As Wurly has suggested, it's more than likely you have a building of crud on the pad sliders (or corrosion) so a clean up and a light application of copper grease will sort it. If the pads are very tight in the sliders use a file just to take the paint off the pad ears so they have a little room to move.

Thanks for your replies , I'm getting my Lude looked at on thursday and not driving it till then so hopefully my pads will be ok.

UPDATE
Garage found that both sets of rear pads were shot due to overheating, one side almost done to the metal :o
Lubed up everthing and fitted new pads , one side freed up ok but one side still binding slightly after test drive.
Told I may need new calipers :( but to keep an eye on the brakes first.
Drove home and both rears really hot again compared to fronts :(
So I got garage to order two replacement calipers , and getting them fitted on monday.
Getting them at £75 each which isn't too bad.
Just hope it fixes the issue as I can't see it being anything else :?

lets hope they have ruled out everything else before they chuck 2 new calipers on , cause if the pads are still binding in the carriers or the sliders are tight or even handbrake cable issues new calipers wont make any difference

That ^^^
You need to be pretty aggressive on the carriers to get them properly cleaned up of corrosion and crap - screwdrivers and files...
