Cambelt done!

Post by majemoss » Sun Apr 29, 2012 9:57 pm

Well decided to have a go at changing the belts today fitted new belts, waterpump, tensioners and bought some seals and auto tensioner from rock auto so changed them aswell , it was pretty straight forward apart from the tensioner bracket bolt snapping (small 6mm). Luckily I managed to remove the oil pump and tap it out ok.
Anyway its all built up and running ok, but I think the balance belt is on the tight side as its sounding like I've fitted a supercharger under the bonnet
I had a search and lots of people complaining about it, has anyone had the same problem on here? I was going to give it a few days to see if the noise subsides but if not will need to re-tension it.....bugger.
Unless its possible to undo the 14mm nut and tension without removing the covers? :D
Thanks

Mark

That would be the rear balance shaft drive gear housing you removed to drill out the broken bolt not the oil pump ;-)
And yep you can release the tension on the balance shaft belt without removing the covers but the only problem with that is you won't know if you've let it go too slack - don't rely on the puny spring to tension it correctly, these get weak.

Thanks, I'll take take the covers off again and let abit of slack off the balance belt. Best to be sure.
