Momo hub problem - any ways round this?

Post by Tusker » Fri Jan 06, 2017 9:52 pm

So big day today. Went to fit the new steering wheel. Got the stock one off and found that the part on the hub that engages with the spin wheel isn't long enough to engage. :(

Anyone come across this before?

I was so sure I had the right hub for Prelude with horn and cruise control:

Maybe there's different spin wheels fitted. TBH any suggestions as to what I do next would be welcome.

i had a similar thing when i fitted my momo wheel but mine wasnt as bad as yours , when i fitted it and did the nut up the wheel was still loose on the shaft ended up having to fit a spacer between the nut and the boss
success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm :D :D

Are there any differences between pre-facelift and facelift when it comes to the steering wheel / ribbon / spinwheel connections?

Not differences on facelift/pre-facelift, nope. There are 2 different types of airbag fitted to 4th gens in general though - these are detailed in the first supplement to the service manual (62ss020).

There are also differences in the hub depending on whether it's a 4ws or 2ws and whether it has cruise or not.
Not aware of any of these changing the length of the stub on the steering wheel though and never seen locating lugs like that (the 3 protrusions on the back of your replacement hub) either.

Thanks, that's enlightening. So maybe if I got the other ribbon/spin wheel it might work.

Those "lugs" are sprung loaded electrical connectors which align to the contacts on the spinwheel when the ribbon pack is removed fro it. The stub has to engage with the spin wheel but mines not long enough.
